Join us for our annual  Spring Wildflower Hikes

Through the forest at Sequatchie Valley Institute

March 24 & April 13, 2024

Get ready for an unforgettable experience in the heart of nature with our annual Spring Wildflower Hikes at Sequatchie Valley Institute!  Discover the beauty of the forest as it first comes alive with the vibrant colors of ragwort, buckeye, bloodroot, trout lily, trilliums, redbuds, and more.

Join us on Sunday, March 24th and Saturday, April 13th, just 45 minutes from Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the hikes led by naturalists, ethnobotanists, and foresters who are intimately familiar with the local bioregion. Walk along the trails through the ancient forest, marvel at towering boulders, and enjoy the beauty of land protected forever by the Land Trust of Tennessee.

The moderate hike will last for 2 hours below the bluffs, giving you plenty of time to discover and film the awakening native flora.  You may continue on a more rugged guided hike on up the cove, exploring hidden treasures.  Be aware that on this rugged hike, time is of no importance.  Count on thrills and wonders.

Hikes will begin at 1 CT (2 ET) sharp. Make sure to arrive at our parking area from 11:00-12:15 latest for registration and a shuttle to the SVI center, where both hikes start.  Before the hikes, you may visit the Liquidambar Art Gallery, featuring pottery, paintings, sculptures, and glass by local artists.  Herb tea will be available, and you may want to bring a picnic.

Please come prepared with long pants, a hat, sturdy shoes, rainwear, water, snacks, a camera, and ID books.  Kids are welcome, but please leave your pets at home, as we are a wildlife refuge.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization promoting education and research in sustainable green living, ecology, and art, we appreciate your donation of $10-$20 for the hike to help cover the cost of future educational events.  Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with nature and learn from experienced guides.
