Land Conservation
To fulfill our mission of land conservation, we plan to work with a diversity of interests, from state and local governments to private citizens and other land conservation organizations, for preservation of land through parks, conservation easements and landowner education.
With the era of coal mining coming to a close, we foresee opportunities to engage in visionary conservation measures for the rare mountain treasures of the Sequatchie Valley. Initially, our efforts will focus on Lane Cove, where the Institute is located. Besides ecological restoration projects and the study of forest recovery, this area can provide educational and recreational opportunities for the people of Southeast Tennessee. The Cove will also provide the beginnings of a valuable biological corridor connecting the North Chickamauga Creek Gorge Watershed with the Savage Gulf State Natural Area.
