Hi folks,

Trish Woolbright asked me to share this with the SVI board and crew,
and I thought our other friends would be interested in the progress on
her cook book project. I've seen her production work, and contributed
a couple of recipes, so I know she's very serious about this project.

If your cooking and knowledge of food has been influenced by events or
stays at Moonshadow, please send a few of your personal recipes!

- Chris Gilligan

    P.S. my recipe contributions:
    Sage & Anakeesta's Favorite Pancakes
Roasted Radishes with Eggplant and Carrots

> I'm attempting to put together a cook book of Moonshadow recipes to
> use as a fundraiser to support the general fund.
>
> My general goal is to make a small cookbook that would serve as a
> guide for :
> Seasonal food calendar/ recipes
> A "basics" list to have on hand
> Boiling times & ratios for beans/ grains/ etc.
> A substitution list for frequently used items or to make something
> Vegan/ vegetarian or low sodium etc.
> Wild edibles
> And featured local food producers in the Sequatchie / Chattanooga
> area. (if you know of a local supplier of any grains, honey,
> mushrooms or specialty items - PLEASE give us their contact info so
> we can include it in this resource)
>
>
> If you have any recipes or topics to talk about in it we would Love
> your input! I will need your recipes by : November 20th.
>
> I would like to have the cook book printed by : November 27th (the
> day before the gallery opening - so that we can sell them there, or
> distribute to board members to sell maybe? Distribution is a
> different topic, and I'll cover that once I get going on the
> printing etc. - I'm trying to keep my costs to below $5.00 /
> booklet. And keep the price of the cook books to about 10-12$ each.
> I had a couple of ideas on distribution:
> Board members buy how ever many they want to sell for us, and then
> keep the money they take in. AND if they can't sell all the books,
> they bring them back and we give them the money back.
> Board members/ volunteers have one copy of their own, and then an
> order sheet, they take the money and the orders and bring it to us,
> and we print and / or give the seller the books to take back to the
> person. (kinda like a school candy sale or other fundraiser where
> people order and give money first before receiving the item.)
> SVI staff / family only - have books and sell them and bring the
> money to SVI. (keeping track of how many go out, how much money
> comes back in vs. how many books come back in.) - this one I think
> we can do in addition to any other options. But to do it all on its
> own is a lot more work for us and we will never sell very many.
> To not accept money for this resource- but to offer it for free
> online? Maybe to do this in the spring? Maybe to offer it free to
> all new SVI members? Its one idea.
>
> Please let me know what you think of these ideas or any that you have!
>
> Also, Michelle, it might be nice if you would like to do a drawing
> for the front cover. If you don't have time to do this I can go
> ahead and take a drawing from Asha's old cookbook from 10 yrs ago
> (Patrick and Asha gave permission to use what we like from that
> book) . But I thought you might like an opportunity to do it as well.

> Any other suggestions or additions are really welcome. :)
>
> I have to say, the main reason I'm doing this is because of the life
> changing lesson's I've learned through SVI regarding food:
> preservation, growing, and preparing and how it relates to
> nutrition. I came thinking I was a pretty good cook, but with weight
> problems I've battled my whole life. I've learned an immeasurable
> list of valuable skills in one short summer here and I believe
> others can benefit from this knowledge too. I also figured if I am
> unable to succeed in printing due to costs, at least we have the
> materials together to publish online for our members and visitors
> and we have learned through putting this together. Thank you so
> much for your input, participation, and interest. Think of it as my
> final research paper from my education at SVI in the summer of 2009
> and I hope it can educate or inspire others in the future and remain
> a resource for everyone.
>
> Sincerely, Trish Woolbright
