Here’s a new offering, in Chattanooga for those of you who can’t make the trek out to Sequatchie Valley…. A Rain Barrel Workshop at Urban Century Institute with Jon Cable of Anderson Gutter and Tree… Jon is an SVI Board Member, and UCI is founded by our good friend and fellow eco-logician Sandy Kurtz & managed by SVI Board Member Jeannie Hacker Cerulean.
Sunday, October 12th from 2-5 pm Eastern Time
- Discussion on water quality, conservation & catchment.
- Rain Barrel construction (barrel provided, but if you have a 55 gallon barrel you may bring your own. Materials for building your barrel included in workshop fee!)
- All you need to know about rain barrel siting, parts, and performance (spigots & overflows, paint, soaker hoses, mosquito control)
- Discussion on gutter cleaning
$25 workshop fee

This is the first in what we hope to be a series of new events, which will take place at a venue we call “Cerulean Ranch”, a living and learning laboratory of the Urban Century Institute and Tennessee Environmental Council: it’s a former home and horse farm very close to Hamilton Place Mall. The “Ranch” may have been a gift from a former mayor and current senator, perhaps owing to a settlement in a lawsuit regarding the sale of protected wetlands.
